The Ungovernable
2017
The work is staged as a performative installation and unfolds over a three-hour period, with the artist installing materials, moving objects through the building, setting up and passing around audio speakers, occupying and speaking from within different rooms – to give narrative to particular social histories while embodying a destituent position. In particular, the work speaks toward the notion of second culture as articulated in the context of the Prague Underground. From parallel publics to undercommon circles, second culture is mobilized as a social imaginary, one that may assist in negotiating the lines of dominant ideologies. Through such a strategy, the work takes it cues from the figures of the disobedient, the restless and the ungovernable: that which disorders to give way to the not-yet. As such, the work expresses a space in the making, a slow movement that situates listening and tenderness as means for constituting an ethics of wild care.
